Recent developments at Immigration New Zealand:

The COVID crisis:

https://www.immigration.govt.nz/about-us/covid-19/coronavirus-update-inz-response

Prioritisation of residence applications:

https://www.immigration.govt.nz/about-us/media-centre/news-notifications/how-we-prioritise-resident-visa-applications/smc-and-rfw-prioritisation-information-for-applicants

OVERVIEW

Between December 2018 and March 2019, the New Zealand Government consulted on a number of changes to employer-assisted temporary work visas. Some changes were introduced in October 2019.

The new temporary work visa process is intended to be more streamlined and less complex replacing six visa categories with one temporary work visa. The process ensures there is an employer check, a job check and a worker check thus ensuring foreign workers are only recruited for genuine shortages.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR YOU?

What it means for you is dependent on your individual circumstances. Your occupation, qualifications, your registration, age, health status, where you intend to live in New Zealand and the remuneration you are offered are all factors which will determine what visa options are available to you.

EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT THE 7 OCTOBER 2019 CHANGES

From 7 October 2019 you will require a job offer of NZD$79,560 (not NZD$55,0000) to access the Talent Accredited Employer Visa (also known as the Work to Residence) pathway.

Previously, if you were on a Talent Accredited Employer Visa (also known as Work to Residence) and earned over NZD$90,000 you could be issued a Permanent Resident Visa rather than a Resident Visa (there is a difference) at the end of 24 months. That will no longer be an option though you can still apply for a Resident Visa.

Silver Fern Visas are no longer available.

HOW GHS CAN ASSIST YOU

If you are an overseas trained allied health professional who doesn’t meet the income threshold for Work to Residence there are still options available. It must be noted that changes to other work visas (including Essential Skills) will be implemented over the next 18 months with six different visa categories being removed and replaced with two new temporary options. This will be fully operational by 2021.

Stay tuned for further changes.

Suna is a South African radiographer who relocated with her husband to Western Australia in 2018.

Next week will be our five month ‘Aussie-anniversary’ already and what an experience it has been so far. Being able to live and work in Australia has been a dream come true for my husband and I.

I am a qualified diagnostic radiographer from South Africa and was put into contact with Global Health Source through a colleague of mine via LinkedIn.

From our first conversation over the phone, Joanna and her team, especially Amanda, were very professional, efficient and always quick to respond to emails if I had any questions or uncertainties.

By the time I first contacted GHS we had already obtained our permanent resident visa and ‘merely’ had the final hurdles of registration and finding a job. Both obstacles proved harder than we anticipated thus, we feel so fortunate that we were put into contact with the ladies at GHS!

When my registration process took much longer than anticipated, Joanna especially, went the extra mile to ensure the process was finalised successfully. They were both also a big emotional support during this time as they kept encouraging me and handling the situation in a very professional manner.

GHS also arranged two interviews during the week that we visited Australia and gave advice on the contractual side of the job once the position was offered, e.g. salary, leave benefits, etc. Both interviews were with employers that fit the criteria I discussed with GHS.

I am very grateful to be happy and productive in my current place of work, something that might have been difficult to achieve without the expertise of GHS.

Once we arrived in Australia, GHS were supportive and kept in frequent contact with us, making the transition period as smooth as possible. They were always on hand with advice, from applying for a tax file number to renting an apartment.

I have already, and will continue to recommend the services of GHS to any health professional that they might be able to assist. They truly played a major part in making our dream of living and working in Australia a reality!

It is part of the Waikato Region and Thames-Coromandel District and extends 85 kilometres north from the western end of the Bay of Plenty, forming a natural barrier to protect the Hauraki Gulf and the Firth of Thames in the west from the Pacific Ocean to the east. At its broadest point, it is 40 kilometres wide. Almost the entire population lies on the narrow strips along the Hauraki Gulf and Bay of Plenty coasts. The country’s biggest city, Auckland, lies on the far shore of the Hauraki Gulf, 55 kilometres to the west. The peninsula is clearly visible from the city in fine weather.

Surrounded by a red sand desert which stretches for hundreds of kilometres in all directions, Alice Springs is one of Australia’s most famous outback towns. It is the gateway to the iconic natural features of Uluṟu (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuṯa National Park.

Here, stories of Australia’s history and heritage are told through a colourful cast of characters and events that include camel races, gold-diggers and outback pioneers.

Alice Springs lies in the physical and spiritual heart of Australia’s Red Centre. It is surrounded on all sides by the jagged MacDonnell Ranges, which according to the traditional owners, the Arrernte people, was formed during the Dreamtime by giant caterpillars. The Royal Geographic Society of Australia has calculated the geographical and gravitational centre of the continent at the Lambert Centre, approximately 200 kilometres south of town.

Today, the town’s upmarket hotels, restaurants, and 20000 inhabitants, continue to uphold its vibrant history. It’s also an excellent place to pick up an authentic piece of unique Aboriginal art.

From here, you can join one of Australia’s most challenging walks, the Larapinta Trail; and it is the ideal place to connect with Australia’s rich Aboriginal traditions and awe-inspiring landscapes.

Australia’s classic outback drive, the Red Centre Way, from Alice Springs to Kings Canyon, is one of the best ways to experience the natural wonders of this vast ancient red landscape.
