Relocating to Australia & New Zealand

Practical advice on moving and settling in

The move

Moving abroad can be overwhelming.  From registration through contract negotiation and visa application Global Health Source will walk you through the paperwork every step of the way. And there will be a lot of paperwork - there's no point pretending otherwise.  Our relocation consultants will provide you with detailed arrival information which outlines everything from how to organize a bank account and a tax file number, through to obtaining a local driver's licence and mobile phone provider.   Whether you are travelling solo, with a partner or family we will provide you with the appropriate support to organise everything from schools to pet transport. Travel and accommodation is often negotiated as part of your contract and all will be in place so that you arrive on shore stress-free and job ready! A successful recruit is a prepared recruit, and we want to ensure that your move is seamless and hassle-free with no surprises.

Settling in

Feeling nervous about a new job is completely normal. Remember that your employer chose you because of your skills. You are not expected to know everything on day one; rather, you are there to learn and grow. Homesickness is real.  It is a completely normal reaction to separation and change and commonly affects travellers and migrants. Some people even suffer from homesickness on holiday - we are all different. When you combine those new job nerves and homesickness, you can begin to question whether you have made the right decision.  Our advice is always "you are not alone in this feeling and give it 6 months".  Knowing that everyone feels like this at some point is helpful. Giving yourself a time-frame to adjust gives you breathing room.

FAQ

What financial assistance is available for the costs involved in moving to Australia or New Zealand?
Registration costs and visa application fees (payable to the Department of Immigration) are the responsibility of the recruit. No financial assistance is available for these items. Global Health Source does not charge a recruitment fee. Employers often make a contribution towards relocation. This can include airfares, initial accommodation and a contribution towards moving costs. Locum contracts may cover accommodation for the entire duration of the locum (dependent upon its length). Relocation costs may be payable as a specified lump sum amount or as a reimbursement up to a certain value upon the presentation of receipts. This will be determined during contract negotiation and the items that you are able to claim for clearly outlined. No surprises.
Can I return home during my contract?
Of course! Work and residence visas are multiple-entry enabling you to return home or holiday abroad.
Are there options for my family and parents to join me?
If you receive a job offer in Australia or New Zealand, you are able to bring a partner and dependent children.   Specific criteria for partnership and dependency of children apply.   There are options for other family members to visit with you, and also permanent options if your family members meet the necessary criteria.  However, your job offer does not enable you to automatically bring extended family members or household staff with you.  Australia and New Zealand have strict migration policies and all visa applications are determined on a case by case basis.
