Australia’s permanent Migration Program is planned annually and carefully designed to achieve a range of economic and social outcomes that meet Australia’s needs.

The Australian government has announced the planning levels for its 2022-23 Migration Program, which will consist of 160,000 places with two-thirds allocated to the Skills stream and one-third allocated to the Family Stream.

The Skills stream will have an allocation of 109,900 places (which is up from approximately 30,000 places in 2021-2022), which is intended to improve the economy and ease critical workforce shortages.

It consists of the following allocations for employer-sponsored, skilled-independent, regional, state/territory nominated, business innovation and investment, global talent (independent) and distinguished talent visa categories.

Visa Stream Visa Category 2022-23

Skill Employer Sponsored 30,000
  Skilled Independent 16,652
  Regional 25,000
  State/Territory Nominated 20,000
  Business Innovation & Investment 9,500
  Global Talent (Independent) 8,448
  Distinguished Talent 300

Skill Total 109,900

As a result, foreign nationals will now have additional opportunities to enter the country for work, residency and a pathway to citizenship.
